Joyce Barry, the district’s chairperson of K-12 science, research, and technology, explains, "Then they’re going back into the tech shops and actually designing their own electricity boards. Then they’re going to go back to the [VR lab] to design these electricity boards that we would never be able to afford or be able to let them do for safety reasons.” This approach not only demystifies the abstract principles of electricity but also empowers students to create and innovate within a controlled, virtual environment.

The most engaging science activities are those that tackle real-world problems, either in the field or in a laboratory setting. By using contemporary issues reported in the news, such as water quality, biodiversity, or drought, educators can challenge students to investigate and propose viable solutions. Hands-on science projects like these teach invaluable skills that are transferable to other academic subjects and potential career paths. For instance, a project focused on water quality might involve testing local water sources for pollutants, thereby introducing students to methods of scientific inquiry and environmental science.

Another idea to help students develop crucial visualization skills involves creating models of the human torso. This activity begins with students constructing a shoebox model to represent the torso, followed by drafting and placing body organs within this model. After constructing the model, students are encouraged to sketch the torso, complete with accurately positioned organs. This task is particularly challenging as it requires an understanding of how organs are interconnected and arranged within the human body. The dual benefit of this activity lies in its ability to foster 3D visualization skills while simultaneously reinforcing anatomical knowledge through hands-on application.
