Back-to-school season is here! Educators everywhere are busy readying their classrooms, preparing new lessons, and getting excited to welcome new students to the new school year. While you are getting into the back-to-school spirit, it’s also a good idea to get whatever educational technology (edtech) you plan to use ready for the new school year too.
Here are three tips to help prepare your edtech for the new school year.
1) Update your edtech.
Summer is a time when many edtech companies roll out system updates, new features, or even new products. Before your students make their way back to the classroom, check for any new updates. This will save you the headache of having to update your edtech in between learning the names of your new students, attending back-to-school assemblies, and getting in the rhythm of your new teaching schedule.
2) Learn the new features.
While you’re taking the time to update your edtech, you might as well familiarize yourself with any changes or new features. Most edtech companies make it easy to figure out what has changed by providing you with how-to guides or what’s new videos on their website. Take a few minutes to experiment with the new features so you aren’t stumped when your students ask you how to use them.
3) Prepare to review with your students.
Speaking of students...it’s never a bad idea to use the new school year as a way to introduce or re-familiarize your students with the proper way to use edtech in your classroom. This may be the first time that some students have the opportunity to use this type of edtech, or they simply may have forgotten edtech etiquette during their busy summers. Reviewing edtech protocol is also a great way to get your students excited about learning with technology this school year!
